Scholarship Application form may be obtained by visiting the Legacy website. Applicants must submit documentation of financial need for scholarship funds. Full-time students pursuing a course of study in public health, communications, social work, education, liberal arts or a related field will be considered eligible. Applicants must have a Grade Point Average of at least a 3.0 (B average) for the most recent academic year. Applicants must provide evidence of service to a community in an economically or socially disadvantaged setting. Involvement in volunteer activities such as outreach, peer counseling to prevent the use of tobacco, drugs or alcohol, or other efforts of benefit to a local community. The purpose is to reduce tobacco use among what the American Legacy Foundation calls "Priority Populations." Priority populations are those populations who are disproportionately targeted by the tobacco industry, or who often lack the tools and resources to combat smoking in their communities. Awards will be granted on a competitive basis for the following: a) a record of commitment to community service on behalf of a disadvantaged community; and b) the best use of visual arts, media, creative writing or other creative endeavor to convey culturally appropriate health messages.
