Catawba Valley Community College Foundation Presidential Scholars Program

Description

The primary consideration in selection will be the student's demonstration of leadership potential. While academic achievement is important, it is not the primary criterion for selection.
The student must be planning to pursue a degree at CVCC on a full-time basis, commencing with the Summer or Fall classes following graduation.
COMMITMENT
Student recipients must accept the commitment to attend a monthly leadership seminar through the CVCC Rotaract Club. These seminars will be offered on a set date each month. At each seminar, a leader from government, education, or the community will address the student group. Monthly programs may include the following topics:

Self-assessment
County economic leadership
Public school leadership
Family goals and leadership
Civic leadership
Preserving the past
National leadership
Diversity awareness as a leader
International business as a leader
Leadership in the next century
Scholarship recipients will be asked to serve in leadership roles and volunteer for a specific number of hours to help with various events on or off the campus. Other opportunities for student participation may be provided.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants will be asked to complete the Catawba Valley Community College Foundation, Inc. Scholarship application form. Upon completion of the scholarship form, the student must talk with his or her guidance counselor regarding interest in the Emerging Leaders program. The guidance counselor will provide the student with an Emerging Leaders application. Upon receipt of the aforementioned, guidance counselors are asked to select the Emerging Leader that will represent their high school for an interview with the Emerging Leaders Scholarship Committee.
